N-
‘religion’ to chant, as in chanting the Koran.
At various celebrations, people chant the Koran as they read various passages at the same time. The chanting is a melodic way of reading, very similar to the Jewish way of reading the Torah. As with the Jews, the chanting of the Koran is not done in unison with others, rather, each one chants the portion of the Koran which is assigned to him. In this way, the whole scripture is able to be read in a short period of time. The sound of the chanting is a bit like a Christian Gregorian Chant, but the Gregorian chants are more musical and done in unison.
Tau ya ngalagu, maka luuy du sab suwala-na.
He knows how to chant [the Koran], and his voice is certainly pleasing too.
Daa sidja bassahun, saguwah laguhin du sab.
Don't just read, but also chant [it].
