An edible substance inside some sea cucumbers.
It consists of sticky threadlike tubes that the sea cucumber throws out to block an attacker’s movements. It is its entrails (part of the intestines). The entrails will grow back again. The sea slug dugu-dugu and various sea cucumbers balat have this defence mechanism. The parts that don’t have sand in them are edible. Some people compare the consistency and color to raw eggwhite.
