A gift of money or gold (from the man’s relatives to the girl’s relatives during the wedding ceremony).
The gift is placed near where the ceremony takes place. Sometimes it is attached to a rice mound dulang. The imam performing the wedding asks if the gift of money basingan is there. Only after it has been pointed out does he proceed with the ceremony. A ring or a bracelet may be given or money. Approx. 100 to 300 pesos is given (1995).
Ga'i halal dende iyan si lella iyan bang ga' niya' basingannen.
That woman is not lawful for that man if he has no gift of money or gold. (They are as if not married.)
