Imbālu
A widow's formal mourning name, used in addressing a woman whose husband has died.
This name is used during a one-year mourning period. Evidence of mourning is indicated by wearing ragged, unwashed clothing and rattan bands, bālu, and by the fact that she may not bathe; hands, feet and face only may be washed. During this time she may not shout, laugh loudly or climb trees.
