A violent-death holiday for one who has died violently, bināgung.
Four days are involved in observing a violent death. The first, dolal, and third, bu'āyat, are preparation days, dāan, for people to go to dig sweet potato or get firewood; the second and fourth are holidays. Second day: go'go' an himung, burial-day holiday. People gather at the home where the dead person is in his or her death chair; work in general is suspended. The sky world, abuniyan, is open for Mana'hāut to receive the spirit of the dead person; during that day he may spit on one leaving the homesite area, causing that person to die violently. See also himung2 for description. Fourth day: Ngīlin an go'go' hinan hagawhāwon nan pamelyan di numbināgung. Holiday when the family of one who has died violently offer hagawhaw prayers. Work in general is prohibited; everyone stays at home; leaving the homesite area endangers one's life as explained above.
