Cultural Note It is arranged usually by the parents or guardians of the male party, at his request, with the parents of the female party.
In the past marriages were arranged by the parents of yet unborn babies but this is no longer common. At the time of the engagement
the father of the male party pays the dangat (bride price) to the father of the female. It traditionally consists of two plates and a long string of beads. The alyug is in contrast to the kalyag.
