pekel
Celebration at which only pigs are butchered; performed before a rice harvest in order to invoke the favor of the spirits so that there will be a good harvest.
This is a Karao ritual. Everyone in the village contributes animals or money for the food. A committee of old men decides how much each household will contribute to the celebration. They go around and collect the contributions. Then the committee selects the house where the celebration will be held. This is usually the house of a man in good standing in the community.
