sarakka
Alms, alms gift; possessions of a deceased person given to s.o. (imam or poor people).
Money is given to poor people. It is believed that if one helps people in their need one will be given a reward later. - After a death has occurred all or most of the possessions of the deceased are given to people as sarakka. Usually poorer people are given to whom one thinks will appreciate it. In some way this is said to be felt by the dead, especially of food that is given as sarakka. Very valuable items are not given as sarakka but some money is given instead (jinihad).
In order for it to be considered a sarakka it has to be stated. Otherwise it is just a gift given. One says: Inin sarakkaku si ka'u. “This is my alms gift to you.”
Badju'ku inin sarakka si aku.
This blouse of mine is an alms gift to me.
Aku pagsarakkahanin.
I am the one the alms gift is given to.
