hatam
Name of the last chapter in the Qur’an; name of the prayer ceremony that is performed after a person has finished reading through the whole of the Qur’an.
If a big feast is provided for a person who finishes reading through the Qur’an the ‘graduation’ is called a pagtammatan. If only the smaller ceremony duwa'a hatam is held with just one rice mound it is called hinataman. The ceremony takes place after all 30 chapters have been read. The last chapter is read by the imam during the particular ceremony. A ceremony like this can also be held for a deceased person if he knew how to read the Qur’an but never had it performed for him.
Bakas hinataman ne dende iyan.
That girl has had the ceremony after reading through the Qur’an.
