balesan (bēsan)
Prone to cause retaliation (by unseen beings).
If a person admires another person’s belongings or personal appearance it may result in a sickness of the person addressed or a failure or breakdown of his belongings. For example the smooth skin of a child is being admired by someone and suddenly the child gets sores or a rash. Or one admires beautiful long hair and it starts to fall out. Or if one admires someone’s slippers and they break. Some people believe it happens through some unseen beings. If it happens often, people say the person speaking has an inherent capability for this type of retaliation to happen. The bad that happens was not intended by the person who is bēsan. A counter measure is to immediately spit on the person spoken about.
A'a iyan seppuhan a'a bēsan.
That person resembles a person prone to cause retaliation.
Sinabit iye we' a'a balesan.
A person prone to cause retaliation paid attention to him.
tewwa' bales
Hit by retaliation.
Bisan iye sinabit we' a'a balesan ga'i iye tewwa' bales.
Even though a person prone to cause retaliation paid attention to him he was not hit by retaliation.
