A rice bean plant, Phaseolus calcaratus [Leg.].
A variety, tukāyan an umāyat, lit. Climbing rice bean, is planted in vegetation mounds, pen'ol, along pond-field dikes and spreads along retaining walls below. This variety as well as tukāyan an mummō'ol, lit. Bush rice bean, are planted in upland fields.

Rice beans, with or without pods.
Young rice beans with pods are boiled and eaten as a side dish, mihda. Mature fruit is shelled and the beans are cooked as a soup, hibul.
