In a traditional house, baluy, it is located in the right back corner, as one looks in the doorway, between the outside floor beam, mundīlig, and center floor beam, gawa''an; it extends into the room about 50 - 80 cm. The fireplace floor is sometimes recessed about 5 cm. below the house floor. Insulation from the fireplace floor is about 8 - 10 cm. thickness of earth.
