Arms and legs of people were traditionally cut off when an enemy was waylaid and killed, ngāyaw, or during warfare, būhul. These parts along with heads, hewat, were taken home and a ceremony involving them, ha'dol, was performed. The legs of animals are cut off in cutting the animal into large pieces, bu'li, when butchering.
