A rice-fermenting basket.
Used for the initial stage of rice beer fermentation, īwa, or for storing sweet potatoes or transporting them from an upland field. In preparation for using for brewing rice beer, a liner, dopon 1a, of banana leaf material, dāun, is used. It is round, about 40 - 50 cm. in diameter and 40 - 45 cm. deep. It is woven of rattan, uway, beginning with a hexagonal weave, pa'an 2, bottom, and continuing with ribs woven into the longitudinal strips, bī'uh 2, to form the sides. It has a lip and foot, bāli.
