For someone (agent muɴ-; s agent maN-) to shout a magical utterance (theme) against a portentous dream (loc ref -an) as protection from its consequences.
Nun'ābuy hi Ballag ya inalīnay, Adyū'ay bābuy! An nunggāyadda ya numpīlatda. Ya dedehhononda ya alyonday, ©Agguy; binalīwanmi, matāgu, mangan, mummayakmak.ª
Ballag shouted a magical utterance and said, ©What a waste of the pig! They have dismembered it and cut it up.ª They (the people) answer and say, ©No; we have saved it, it lives, it eats, it smacks its jaws (in eating).ª
A portentous dream may be of a burning house, which forecasts a death in the family. This is counteracted by setting fire momentarily to the family house and shouting a magical utterance during a sacrifice of pigs, pāhang. Or the dream may be of killing a pig, which portends the death of a son or daughter. During the sacrifice of pigs, a ritualist squats in the doorway of the family house and shouts a magical utterance, joined in a chorus by others present, as illustrated above.
