A traditional Samal kiss is a sniff, usually given on the cheek. When a younger person shows respect to a relative, or asks forgiveness, he/she will, take the hand of the older relative in both of his/her hands, and bow, bringing the hand of the older person to his/her face in order to kiss sniff the back of the hand. Nontraditional kissing with the mouth is also beginning to be done by some of the younger people.
