to exchange babies for nursing.
Actually, the exchange does not have to be mutual. The arrangement of having another woman nurse one's child causes a pseudo
kin relationship which is stronger than with one's in-laws. If both mothers nursed each other's children, the children of
the two mothers may not marry nor fight among themselves and are considered siblings. If the exchange was not mutual, the
baby which was nursed may not marry or fight with any of the children of the mother who nursed him. But other children from
the two families may marry or fight each other. Newborn babies are given to another woman for nursing, because the real mother's
milk has not yet come in. This concept is present in other Philippine ethnic groups as well as in Islam.
