‘apparel’ sarong.
On Sibutuh, this word is the most commonly used for sarong. A sarong is a piece of patterned cloth usually cotton, sewn with one seam to make a tube-like garment. Sarongs are worn by men and women. They are usually tied at the waist as a skirt-like garment. Men and women have different ways of wrapping them. Women can also wear them as a dress tied over one shoulder, or "strapless", that is, wrapped just above the breasts. Women wear them this way when engaged in early morning chores and for taking public showers at the well. Sarongs are also used as sleep wear, and as a blanket. The same type of sarongs are worn in Indonesia, but they are not sewn into a tube.
