The Prophet Muhammad, an Arab, was born about 570 A.D. He is the founder of Islam. Islam's holy book, the Koran, records his
sermons. He is credited with removing all objects from the Kaaba shrine, except for the meteorite, "the black stone", and with unifying the tribes of Arabia. He is regarded by his followers
as the last prophet and is called Rasul Allah , "messenger of God". Those who follow his religion are called Muslims. Their calendar dates from the time he fled
from Mecca to Medina, about 622 A.D.
