Makdum, Sheik
Makhdum Karim
the name of an Arab
trader
missionary.
Sheik Makdum was one of the first seven some say nine Islamic traders, or missionaries, to come to Sulu archipelago about
1380 A.D. He is said to have built the first mosque in Sulu, located at Tubig Indanan, Simunul Island, Tawi-Tawi and is said
to be buried there. However, people of Sibutuh Island believe he is buried on the east side of Sibutuh Island, where a tampat grave shrine exists. Another spelling of his name is "Makhdum Karim". He had titles of Sharif Sama: salip and possibly auliya [see owliyah ].
