Islam was founded by its Prophet Muhammad in Arabia early in the seventh century. The word Islam means to "submit to the will of God". Arab traders brought Islam to the Sulu area late in the fourteenth century. The central
tenets of Islam are its five pillars of faith: Faith, prayer, alms giving, fasting and pilgrimage. Its holy book is the Koran,
its body of traditions is the Hadith, and its most venerated shrine is the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
