A traditional belief of the Karaos is that it is not good to do something only once or to have only one item. For example, you buy a second beer to match the first one. If you hold a kanyaw ritual to make a pair with one given earlier, then this will bring good luck. It will also bring honor and fame. At certain rituals, animals are butchered as pairs, e.g. a male and a female water buffalo.
