Shoot (of bamboo and rattan, edible when young); growing part (of palm trees).
The bettung kind of bamboo is better than bātakan. The growing part of coconuts and areca nuts are also used, though it is said that the shoots of coconuts may bring on spitting of blood. The growing part on the lower end of pineapple leaves are called umbut also and can be used as medicine for boils.
