To stop or restrain people fighting (by separating them physically), to hold back s.o. by force (to stop him from fighting).
If we are not bold enough to restrain (people), we just say, “that is enough; don’t quarrel”.
Hold them back by force if they are grappling with each other.
When they are quarreling nobody holds them back.
