bintak
A token of dowry.
The token is brought to the girl’s house when marriage arrangements are initiated. It may be a ring, brass tray, sword, etc. or money.
nurul bintak
Following the token (a stage in marriage negotiations).
Soon after the bintak was taken (two days or so later) a rice mound dulang used to be brought to the house of the girl and placed there. Nothing needs to be said. The girl’s family may not have expressed their consent yet. (Nowadays (1995) this step is usually omitted.)
