An umbrella swift, onto which a skein, niwalangan, of yarn is placed to facilitate winding the skein into balls, pen'ol 2, for weaving.
It is about 50 cm. high and 50 cm. across at the base. It is made of a bamboo tube, about 3 - 4 cm. in diameter split at the top into four strips which recurve in an umbrella shape. Four strings are tied to these strips, extend downward and are tied to crossed sticks which form the base. These strings slide on the base sticks to adjust to the diameter of the skein which rests on them. A short vertical stake anchored firmly in the ground is inserted into the base of the tube. This holds the swift upright and allows it to revolve for winding skeins into balls.
