The gift given is usually money or a chicken. In return, a person giving an exchange gift expects to receive an extra portion of meat, ini'biyan, beyond the expected portion, hāmul, when pigs are butchered and the meat distributed. Reportedly derived from ubi, chicken coop basket, since it is customarily used to transport a gift chicken to the recipient.
