A leash stick for a hand loom, positioned behind the heddle stick, ginulun, and working against it to create a shed, ādu, of the warp, miyobol.
It is made of bamboo, about 70 cm. long and from 3 - 6 cm. in diameter depending on the article being woven. Warp threads, caught by the heddle, pass under the leash stick; free warp threads; i.e., threads missed by the heddle, pass over the leash stick. Thus when the heddle is raised the caught warp is moved to the top of the shed with the free warp on the bottom; conversely, when the heddle is lowered, the coiled heddle string is loose enough to allow the caught warp to move to the bottom of the shed with the free warp on top. A loom may use from one to three pairs of heddle and leash sticks depending on the intricacy of the weave pattern.
