pū'it
1
Earwax; ear discharge, from an ear infection.
It is traditionally thought that earwax is the sole cause of deafness; thus a deaf person is said to have earwax regardless of the cause of deafness. When water or some foreign agent is obviously the cause, it is traditionally held that these foreign agents become earwax.
2
For someone (patient ma-) to be deaf.
For something (actor -um- & inst) to cause deafness.
Umu'uddum ya pumū'it nan danum hi umuy hi inga at mid donglon.
Sometimes water going into the ear causes deafness and so nothing can be heard.
Besides water, umīdaw spirits are also said to cause deafness.
