A variety of bamboo characterized by its thorns, nahbitan.

A salt-meat container.
Typically made of a section of bamboo, especially of the polotan or būlu variety. The container is typically about 40 - 50 cm. long and 15 cm. in diameter. Meat is cut into chunks, salted heavily, packed tightly into the container and covered by banana leaves and finally a cloth, tied securely at the top. Salted meat, pināit, will be preserved if undisturbed for several months. Also used for storing salt, ahin.
