To terminate a spirit's marriage to a person, the souls, lennāwa, of appeasement items are given the spirit. Typically, these are expensive items of personal adornment, as a dress belt, ginuttu; earrings, hīngat; leg bracelets, pādang; neck pendant, būung; skirt, badya'ung, binnālit; spear, pāhul; tubular beads, pango.
For ritualists, mumbā'i (agent; s agent maN-), to terminate a marriage (theme) to a place spirit (loc ref -an) with a spirit-termination appeasement item, as described above.

A person, either male or female, is married to a place spirit when the place spirit persuades the soul of the person to remain in the abode of the spirit, usually in a forested area. To terminate the marriage, either a place-spirit forest ritual, amlag, or place-spirit house ritual, pinādeng 3, must be performed at which time the spirit is given the souls of appeasement items, as described above.
