Field day during the post-transplanting holiday, ulpi.
Very early morning the wife of the material and spiritual overseer of the village, haldot, and the wives of each of the leaders of peripheral agricultural sub-districts, tonong, go to their respective ritual pond fields, tona', to sacrifice a chicken. The chicken is split lengthwise and the breast and legs are boiled and eaten with cooked rice brought to the field. Two arrow-grass canes, bilāu, with leaves, ludho' 1, are decorated with feathers from the chicken and planted in the pond field near the dike, punludho'an. Following this, beginning in the early morning, nahoyang, families of the village go to their ritual pond fields, puntonā'an, in each agricultural sub-district, hintumnong, where they have pond fields and have a picnic, performing the rituals described above. The head and back of the chicken is brought home and gonob prayers are offered that afternoon or evening. If the ritual field is not cleaned and transplanted, pītaw rituals are not permitted. Thus the family will make every effort to clean the field and transplant seedlings in at least the area of the ritual markers, punludho'an. If the field is rented, it is the responsibility of the renter to perform the pītaw ritual. Before eating, place spirits, pinādeng, are called to join the picnic with a prayer such as the following:
Umāli ayun pinādeng ta me''an ayu ta adīyu ibo'tan di manu'yu an do''o ta adīyu aminon nan nebgay hi payaw ta wāday malmu hi būngana ta wāda nankay di umat hitu hi iyāyagmin da'yu.
You, place spirits, come and eat with us and don't let loose your chickens, which are rats, so that you don't waste the transplanted rice, its fruit will develop, and after all there will be (more rice) like this to use in calling you.
