A defect in something, such as a wine jar, a hunting dog, a rooster used as a decoy.
A whorl on only one side of a hunting dog's neck is a defect; the dog would easily be bitten by snakes and wild pigs. A red stripe on the outside of the leg of a rooster used as a decoy to lure a wild chicken into a trap is a defect; the decoy will call snakes instead of chickens.
