A utility dish.
A relatively large wooden dish, about 25 - 35 cm. in diameter at the lip. It has three main uses: 1) A rice-fermenting basket, gamāta, is placed in it to catch drippings from fermenting rice grains in making rice beer, īwa. 2) Used as a dish for mashing cooked sweet potatoes and taro corms, ināgad. 3) Used as a serving dish, a communal dish for eating rice, hinamal, during harvest, īwang, or as a soup bowl.
