palliw
1
A man's malign sorcerous power.
Malign power is used to curse a person, domestic animals and chickens, or field crops, usually as a result of jealousy because of someone else's successes. Possession is by transfer from another who has the same powers, by purchase. It is extremely secretive, being kept even from one's spouse. A recitation is memorized and used for cursing. It is said that the person with such powers has a familiar spirit. An udyad ritual is used to counteract malign power.
