mana'hāut
A class of nature spirits.
The following are a few examples: Umalgaw, One who shines, i.e., the sun; Ambūlan, or Bulan, Moon; Mangiyahah, One who starts rain; Mangiyalibuybuy, One who causes storms; Būnut, Cloud; Talaw, Bright Star; Mamigat, Morning Star; Mangitangob, One who closes, i.e. closes the opening to Skyworld, Abuniyan. There are others that seem not to relate to nature: Mangiyālun, Go-between; Domelam, Giver of Sickness; Humighigit, Troublemaker, and many others. Most live in the Skyworld, ad Habīan, and a few in Downriver region, ad Angādel, and in the Underworld, ad Dolom. These spirits are appealed to for help, e.g., during a ritual to call someone's soul back from the sun, opah1, or during a defense ritual performed to prevent or remedy misfortune, hagawhaw.
