A cleared pond-field border area, of carefully weeded earth between a pond field and unterraced land above it.
Borders around peripheral fields prevent vegetation from falling into the fields. Cleared vegetation is stacked in a windrow, līdah, at the extreme edge of the border to prevent rats from entering the fields.
