Grown in upland fields and dried pond fields. Varieties: longeh an adukkoy, lit. `tall sesame'; longeh an he'he'dod, lit. `short sesame'.

The small, black seeds are roasted, salted, pounded and eaten as a side dish. Without salt it is used as a flavoring, lopot, for vegetables.
