ipītan
-an
A waist template for a hand loom, pa'ātan, which holds the weaving nearest the weaver.
It is in two pieces of half-dowel, about 70 cm. long. It holds the leading edge of the weaving, by clamping onto the woven materīal just behind the leading warp threads. The two halves are tied tightly together at the ends with string. It is held against the body with a waist belt, gawelan. As weaving progresses the materīal is pulled towards the body to keep the leading edge of the weaving close to the template.
