On a traditional house, the wattle purlins are positioned close together between the upper-roof purlins, pāngal di tū'ul, and eaves purlins, putit, tied to the wattle rafters, tuldug, with rattan. They are usually made of arrow-grass canes, bilāu, and sometimes of pinanga palm stalks, banahi, bitullung.
