A betel vine Piper betel [Piper]; betel leaf.
Planted in and around housing sites beside trees and palms on which it climbs. The leaves and fruit, pudu, are mixed with betel nuts for a stimulating chew. Varieties: apīit, dallopdop, datto', dulawon, gū'ung, hāpid hi payaw, betel vine of the pond field, hīnga, tammel. Varieties are distinguished by color, taste and smell.
