hāwal
-C-
1a
A remainder of people, something, things, as of food after eating, portions of meat after distribution; one or more items unmatched after matching pairs, as one man remaining when there are five men to marry four women.

This is the one peso remainder of the money we ten divided (among ourselves).

For someone (agent) to set aside a portion of something (theme -on).
Refers only to mass objects such as rice, side-dish food.

Intan set aside my side-dish food and so I ate well.
-on: hawālon; -iɴ-: hināwal
For a mass object (patient ma-) to be left over after apportioning out or consuming something, as rice, side-dish food.

2
For someone (agent) to add one or more people or things (theme i-) to one or more other people or things (loc ref -an) to make enough or to result in an excess, as to call more people than necessary to harvest so the work will be done quickly; to eat sparingly so there will be a remainder for latecomers.
Ihagwal: focus is on that used to cause an excess or remainder, as extra people or things added to those already gathered; (that added is not necessarily the remainder described under 1a).
3
For someone (actor -um-) to take something (theme -on) in excess of that considered appropriate or of one's share.
