A coarse spear grass, Imperata exaltata; commonly called cogon grass; used for roof thatch.
Grows especially in grassland, mapulun, and abandoned upland fields, ūma.

A header straw; typically, the stock of spear grass, woven into warp threads to begin weaving.
Two or three straws are used. They form a straightedge for the first weft threads, pa'an, and hold the threads from slipping towards the weaver when beat in, balīga. They are removed when the weaving is completed.
