A heddle stick of a hand loom, around which heddle string, gulun, is loosely wound in a coil, catching selected warp threads, miyobol. It is pulled up, tūab, or lowered to produce a shed, ādu, through which the shuttle, hi'ītan, passes. It works against a leash stick, tubungan, which helps to produce the shed. A loom may use from one to three pairs of heddle and leash sticks depending on the intricacy of the weave pattern.
