There are from five to seven inside joists. They, along with outside ceiling joists, hagpaw di lī'ub, run parallel with the front and back of the house and rest loosely on the ceiling beams, lī'ub. The center joist is solidly held by an roof-bearing post, tū'ud di binnūlon, which is morticed into it.
