A small-culmed variety of bamboo, Gigantochloa levis Blanco Merr., with culms smaller in diameter than those of awāyan.
This variety is used extensively in making baskets; e.g., hagda `colander basket'; hū'up `cooked-rice storage basket'; tudung `rain basket'; ledaw `rain hat'; ha'lub `headbands'; hape'eng `traveller's backpack'; used also as tying material for rice bundles. A single section, lāwah, is sometimes used as a container for cured fish or insects, binohhong.
