To sew palm leaves for roofing; to make nipa shingles.
The leaves are folded over in half on a long, thin bamboo
stick or bori midrib. Then they are sewn together near
the top, close to the stick, with a long piece of rattan. Each
finished shingle is about 1.2 meters (4 feet) long and 30 to
45 centimeters (12 to 18 inches) wide, depending on the
length of the leaves.
