It is not clear if this is a borrowing from other Philippine languages
in which “Apo” means Lord, or if it is a form of the Agutaynen
word for Lord, “Ampoan”. It is seldom heard except in the
expression below, usually said by older people.
Mga malangeb ganing tang mga mepet, “Maloay
Apo!”
When the sea is rough the old people say, “Slow it down,
Lord!”
